What’s Your Carbon Footprint

As a renewable energy company, GAI often looks for ways to decrease its carbon footprint. For 2025, our goal is to become more aware of our carbon footprint and actively analyze the business to identify where we can improve.

Businesses Environmental Impact

Many major companies have made public commitments and publish regular ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) plans to measure not only their environmental impact in the world but also their social impacts in communities and governance of their employees. These are usually large companies with global impacts.

While GAI is a much smaller company, we still have a footprint we’d like to analyze and reduce.

The First Step – Measurement Tools

Have you ever heard of SMART Goals? SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. This style of goal setting encourages you to define your goals clearly and realistically, which simplifies accomplishing them.

With this in mind, we know that first and foremost, we must find a way to measure our impact. This will allow us to not only identify the places we score badly but also enable us to measure improvements as we take steps to correct the issues.

As we find useful tools, we will be sure to share them so our commercial friends and partners can take a look!

Tools Residential Sites

While we work on measuring the impact of our business and setting a plan in place, I want to encourage each of you to consider doing the same thing at home. A little while back, our friends at the Carmel Green Initiative wrote an excellent article, “Greetings!“. They discuss a measurement tool that is specifically used for residential sites. If you are interested in tracking your own carbon footprint, it is a quick and simple way to get a baseline number.

Going Forward

We will keep you updated on our progress as we get further into 2025. We would love to hear back from you if you decide to track your footprint as well. Good luck with your efforts and let us know if we can help!
