3 Benefits of Going Solar That You Should Embrace This Year

By Dave Conway

With just a few weeks into the new year, resolutions are hot on our minds, and if you’re still looking for a beneficial new year’s resolution for you and the world around you, look no further! Our team at Green Alternatives believes this is the perfect time to add solar energy to the list of your 2022 resolutions – even if some benefits of solar power for Hoosiers are currently being threatened at the state level. Thank you to everyone who has already filled out this quick legislative survey.  More on that in our next blog, too.

Whether you’re looking to save money or help a greater cause, switching to solar can make sure you accomplish both! Here are three reasons why going solar in 2022 could be the most important move you make all year.

Qualify for the Federal Solar Tax Credit Before It Reduces

One of the best reasons to go solar in 2022 is the federal solar tax credit which covers 26% of a solar system’s cost. Also known as the investment tax credit or ITC, the federal solar tax credit will make your solar installation process much more affordable.

While the ITC is a brilliant deal for anyone looking to install a solar system, Green Alternatives recommends acting fast since it is set to reduce in 2023. Unless the federal solar tax credit is extended, the credit then decreases even lower to 10% in 2024, while residential solar systems will not be eligible anymore.

Solar Increases the Value of Your Home

According to a 2019 study from Zillow, homes with solar-energy systems sold for 4.1% more on average than homes without solar power. In addition, the study suggests that going solar adds $9,274 to the property value of an average home.

Solar energy provides future energy saving costs, one of the many reasons homebuyers believe spending on these houses is worth it. Not to mention, more than 80% of homebuyers say energy-efficient features are important, according to the Zillow Group Consumer Housing Trends Report.

Solar is Good for the Environment

We all know about this. One of the best parts about going solar is knowing you contribute positively to the environment. As we’ve mentioned in past blog posts, solar power doesn’t pollute the air or produce greenhouse gases. Likewise, solar replaces other forms of non-renewable energy like coal, gas, and oil. The bottom line is solar energy is an excellent alternative to toxic forms of energy production, such as the burning of fossil fuels.

Green Alternatives thanks all our customers for a great 2021, and our team would be happy to help new and existing customers install even more solar panel projects this year! Ready to get started? Reach out to the trained technicians at Green Alternatives today!
